FINISHES

Floor Colours and Finishes

Modern epoxy flooring offers a wide array of choices in terms of colour finishes, effects, and designs, providing virtually limitless possibilities.

The most crucial considerations include ensuring the final finish is suitable for the intended use of the space, meets all regulatory compliance standards, is expertly installed, and meets your aesthetic preferences.

Choosing an epoxy floor finish involves three main components: selecting the base epoxy coat colour and its properties, determining the size, colour, and mix of decorative flakes, and incorporating additional finish features to align with location-specific requirements and regulatory standards, where applicable.

These factors are carefully evaluated to ensure your epoxy floor finish not only enhances the visual appeal but also meets practical needs and regulatory guidelines effectively.

Flake Types

We currently offer two primary types of flake for epoxy flooring:

  • Imported Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA)
  • Australian-manufactured acrylic latex

Additionally, new styles from Asia are also emerging. We conduct thorough investigations and testing on new products, adhering to strict quality control, performance, and supply standards, before considering their addition to our range of finishing options.

Flake is UV-resistant, which is advantageous for floors exposed to sunlight as it helps maintain the epoxy floor's colour longer than other flooring types prone to fading. The top coat used to seal the flake into the floor tends to absorb less with PVA flake than with acrylic latex, contributing to reduced 'costs per floor'.

Flake Colours and Styles

Our epoxy flake flooring offers a versatile range of colours and styles to enhance the aesthetic appeal of any space. From vibrant hues to subtle tones, and various flake sizes and blends, we provide customization options to suit your design preferences and functional needs. Whether you prefer a contemporary look with a seamless blend of flakes or a bold statement with contrasting colours, our epoxy flake flooring ensures durability, easy maintenance, and long-lasting beauty for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Flake Size

In addition to various colours and styles, epoxy flakes come in different sizes, ranging from micro-sized particles to larger chunks as big as 50 cent pieces. In Australia, the 6mm flake is the most commonly used size. Flakes are pre-mixed in quantities of 5, 10, and 20 kg and are applied directly to the floor after coating. However, the XL flake, due to its larger size, requires a different dispersion method compared to the standard 6mm flake, a technique well understood by experienced installers.

Our Epoxy Styles and Designs

Full Coverage: Achieving 100% flake coverage is not only economical but also enhances protection by creating an extra layer between foot, vehicle, and equipment traffic and the resinous coating. The size and colour of the flakes define the final appearance, as demonstrated by our Garage and Refined blends below.

Partial Coverage: Some clients opt for partial flake coverage for several reasons:

A desire to highlight more of the coloured base coat

A preference for a less busy and more understated design

The need for a flooring area where small items, when dropped, can be easily located rather than blending into the design.
